Although it disrupted life for everyone, the COVID-19 pandemic had a silver lining for dogs in need of a good home.

Pet adoptions have increased nationally and in Mt. Greenwood, according to the staff at Posh Pet Day Spa–Grooming/Doggie Day Care, and more local families than ever are in need of professional grooming services for their new pets.

The number of pet adoptions has indeed increased dramatically since the start of the pandemic.

Posh Pet Day Spa–Grooming/Doggie Day Care, 3514 W. 111th St., provides a wide array of services that keep pets happy and healthy.

Posh Pet offers complete professional grooming services for all breeds of dogs, and it has served thousands of local families.

Since starting their family business in 2005, in a small storefront near 111th Street and Kedzie Avenue, the owners knew their venture would take hard work and dedication, but they never imagined the scope of what they would achieve.

In just three years, Posh Pet expanded twice in order to serve all its clients, and in 2008 it moved to its current location, providing three times more space and more comfort and convenience for pet owners and their four-legged friends.

Posh Pet Day Spa–Grooming/Doggie Day Care is a godsend for pet owners with busy work or social schedules. Instead of leaving their dog home alone all day, registered clients can bring in their pet for grooming and hours of fun with other dogs.

With more than 5,000 square feet of space, the Doggie Day Care is the place where a dog can be a kid again! It is adult-supervised, divided by small and large breeds, and the staff is trained in animal first aid and CPR. Throughout the day, the staff also reinforces basic obedience training.

There are plenty of toys and activities for the pets’ physical and mental exercise. Posh Pet has an outside fenced area where dogs can catch some sunshine and enjoy the breeze. 

Day care is available Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All dogs must be spayed or neutered, have a current shot record, and a recent negative fecal test. Other restrictions apply. Call for more details.

Grooming services are available in various affordable packages—large and tall, short and small, Posh Pet grooms them all! Services include shampoo, conditioning, brush out, ear cleaning, nail clipping, trimming and grooming as specified by the customer.

Their grooming staff is experienced and professional. Posh Pet does not use tranquilizers, and it provides the newest in pet styles and services such as medicated baths.

Grooming is available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday, with late hours available on Thursday.

Posh Pet is also involved in the community and supports worthwhile organizations such as the Mt. Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

It also supports American Greyhound, Inc., which is dedicated to finding homes for retired racing greyhounds, as well as other sight hounds in need. Lynn has been a dedicated supporter of the group for many years.

When it takes the dogs into its care, American Greyhound assures the dog’s veterinary needs are met, no matter what they may be. Those needs are determined by its veterinary committee. American Greyhound has impacted well over 1,350 dogs over the past 10-plus years.

However, to continue to make that difference, the group needs volunteers, foster homes and financial support.
